The Bachelorette: My Picks!

So it is no secret that I am a reality TV junkie…LOVE IT! Well, some of it anyway! One of my all time favorite shows is The Bachelor, or in this case, The Bachelorette! I have watched every single season but the first one and I won’t deny it…I am hooked!! (Chris would hate me for sharing this, but since he never checks my blog, I’ll let you in on a little secret…he kinda likes it too! He always watches it with me!!)

Sometimes it is frustrating beyond words and I absolutely can’t figure out why in the world they keep the people they keep, but I am pretty darn good at picking out at least one of the top two! (However, I totally blew it in this last season…my girl made it to the top four and then went home.)
So, I thought that since I am blogging this season, I would put my picks up and see how I do!! Now watch, after I go bragging on my skills, I’ll probably miss it by a mile!
Here are my top three…as we see more I’ll narrow it down, but I have only had one episode to get to “know” these fellas!!
Jason…The Account Executive (also a single dad)
Photobucket
Richard…The Science Teacher
Photobucket
Graham…The Professional Basketball Player
Photobucket
So, there are my top three! I am really rooting for Jason as of right now! He seems like such a nice guy and a great dad!! I KNOW some of you watch this right along with me…who are you rooting for DeAnna to end up with?!!

Dear Fredericksburg

Ok, so I am not exactly sure how to go about this, so I am just going to add this little post in this morning.

Fredericksburg, whoever you are, you are very interested in me or my family, which is great, but I am beginning to get a little bit uncomfortable by this whole situation. I added the tracker because I thought it was fun to see who was popping in and where people were, but you seem to be popping in WAY more than anyone else and you have now somehow managed to get on my class reunion site and are “stalking” my friends as well.
I am sorry to put you on the spot, but I started this blog for fun and to stay in touch with people. I am an extremely cautious person and am concerned with how often you frequent my blog and the fact that you are on my class reunion site. Now, maybe you were in my class, I really don’t know, but chances are you were not. If you were, I am sorry. Anyway, I hate to be forced to make this blog private, but if I continue to feel this way, I will be forced to.
So, that being said, please feel free to e-mail me (bethany.m.graham@gmail.com) or leave a comment so I know who you are and what in the world you find so fascinating about us! I love to read blogs as well, some more than others, and I do check in on some more than once a day, but not several times an hour. I hope you understand my discomfort here…my sense of security and the safety of my children and family are far more important than this blog.

Off The Beaten Path

WHEW! So it is our second full day home now and man I am worn out! I literally spent all day yesterday either doing laundry or unpacking. Ugh…glad that is done!! Well, almost done anyway! There are still some odds and ends to take care of, but I am not so much in the mood for that right now, so instead I am sharing some pictures and such from our trip last week! Blogging is WAY more fun than cleaning and doing chores!!

First of all…we stayed in Napa Valley,  Yountville to be exact, and the hotel was A*M*A*Z*I*N*G. It was extremely nice and a photographers dream! There were fountains and flowers and grasses and ponds and bridges and just about anything you could ever think of! And that was just at our hotel! If you ventured out just a little bit there was even more incredible scenery and backdrops! Too bad my kids are at unbelievably hard ages to shoot right now!! Huntler gives me the fake, cheesy smile and Gentry just runs off! But, we were so busy while we were there that there just wasn’t enough time to work in extra photo shoots anyway!! Needless to say, I didn’t get any award winning shots, but oh well!!
We had a great time! We actually went because Chris qualified for this trip through work. There was only one other child there, and he was with our group! So, based on this little fact, you can guess that this was not so much a kid oriented trip! HOWEVER, we did our own thing and truly had a wonderful time!! (Many of you know that I don’t leave my kids anywhere…I just don’t do it. So, either we all went or the kids and I stayed home. Thank goodness we all went – it was a great trip!!)
Since we had our kids we didn’t tour the wineries or do the typical “Napa thing.” In fact, I didn’t drink one sip of wine the entire time we were there!!  Craziness I know, but I am so not a wine drinking kind of girl! Nor am I a spinach ball rack of lamb eating kind of girl…more on that in another post.
So, we spent Thursday in San Francisco. One of the guys we were with has friends there who met up with us and gave us an amazing tour! I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that our tour was so spectacular…these friends are incredibly talented individuals. Justin is a musician and Amy is an artist who most recently has taken up photography (she was even so kind as to give me some pointers!!). How lucky were we to get to spend a day with two such inspiring and creative people?! Pretty darn lucky if I do say so myself!! Since they live in this city on the bay, they know their way around and were able to take us places that were totally off the beaten path! Everywhere from the fabulous locale where we viewed the Golden Gate Bridge to this quaint little cafe where we ordered lunch and ate on blankets facing the ocean!
We visited the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square (where I bought not one but TWO of Kara’s Cupcakes…YUMMY! The carrot cake one was featured on Martha Stewart!), Chinatown, North Beach…we were all over and loved every minute of it! Although we live in a BIG city, it is nothing like San Francisco, nothing!!

So…that gets us through Thursday!! Well, almost. We ate dinner at this yummy little Italian place and then stopped for some gelato on our way out. Yeah, so I didn’t even know what gelato was, but now I do! Of course, I am lactose intolerant and only had a tiny little taste, but it was delish!! Anyway, this little gelato stop slowed us down a bit and we didn’t get to our rental car until after 10:00. No biggie you are probably thinking…but YES it was a biggie! The parking garage closed at 10:00 and the gate was locked. We got in without a problem, but by the time we had diapers changed and kids loaded and everything, it took awhile. By some miracle the attendant was still working about 15 minutes late and let us out. Apparently he didn’t have to since we were the ones who didn’t read the signs and pay attention to the fact that we needed to be out by 10:00, but THANK GOODNESS he did!! YIKES!! Now, we have spent the night in a mini van before when we got stuck in a blizzard on Highway 40 during our trip home from Christmas 2006…but we SO don’t want to go there again!! Hmm…I think I need to share that story as my Flashback Friday this week! It was memorable to say the least!
Friday was not quite as action packed…we tried to go visit Muir Woods but there was a fatality accident and traffic was a mess and things just didn’t work out, so we just hung out at the hotel and rested a bit before heading out to dinner that night. It was actually nice to have the day off! We got burnt while we were out walking all day Thursday and we all know how getting fried sucks the energy out of you!! WHEW! Chris is peeling but so far I am not! Let’s hope I don’t! (Gentry was a little red, but she seems to tan really well for some reason and Huntler didn’t seem to get burnt at all!)
So, Saturday we loaded up and headed for Muir Woods and Stinson Beach. But, I have typed a ton here so I am going to wait and share those photos and stories in my next post!
Here is Gentry on the night we arrived…I bought some new Photoshop actions and have been playing! I love the dramatic look on this one!! It obviously isn’t subtle, but I like the effect!

Hmm…he obviously did not inherit my intense fear of birds now did he?! Speaking of…I hit a bird today when we were out running errands! YUCK!

This is before I did anything in Photoshop…I forgot to duplicate the next image before editing it, but this one was super close. Anyway, look at what 5 minutes in Photoshop can do (the image below this one)!! Bright blue skies and details in the water!! I am no pro, but I am loving learning this stuff!! For so long I thought it was ALL about the shots! While it starts with a good image, Photoshop is what makes it great!! FUN FUN FUN!!

The kids did NOT care for the “Tin Man” one single bit!! He was painted all silver and made funny little noises and very precise movements!! Gentry did get him to “crack” though! I told her to shake his hand and she said, “Don’t want it.” He smiled really big and said, “She don’t want it!” I thought it was kinda cute because he was so “in character” and she managed to take him out of that for a brief moment!

Ok…I am having line spacing issues again! Anyway, the bottom photo is Lombard Street…it is the most crooked street in the U.S. or something like that! It is such a cute little street but I bet the traffic is a nightmare!!

One More Day!

I know that several of you have been checking in on me the last couple of days…I just wanted to post a little something for ya in case you are one of those faithful followers!!

I spent the entire day unpacking and doing load upon load upon load of laundry. Everything from washing it to getting it ALL put away! That is no small feat with two tired kiddos and a mountain of clothes from being gone for several days!!
Anyway, I did get started on editing some photos too, but am not ready to post any yet! However, I PROMISE some tomorrow…but it might be late tomorrow depending on how our day goes!!
Thanks for keeping tabs on us and I am off to watch the Rose Ceremony on The Bachelorette!! Let’s hope my picks make it!!

One Little Snippet…

Ok…so you know there is NO WAY I could possibly go to bed without loading all 584 pictures…yes, that is correct, 584…on to the computer! I have TONS to delete as well as lots of editing to do, but I wanted to share just one.

For anyone who has children, you understand how nearly impossible it is to get a decent shot of everyone. We are no exception as you can tell from this shot, but I wanted to share a family pic and it was by far the best one!! We are having family pictures taken this summer and I definitely do not envy the photographer! WHEW! Getting eye contact or just a decent shot is HARD! Hope she has a few tricks up her sleeve!

Anyway, one of the guys we were with on the trip has friends in San Francisco and we met up with them on Thursday. They gave us an amazing tour of the city and I have so much to share, but that will come later!

This was taken at this place that is totally off the beaten path for the “average” tourist…no signs, no major markers to exit….just a cool place known by the locals! We were in the Marin Headlands (or just outside of them…I get confused) and were actually looking down on the bridge and across as the city with Alcatraz just to our left.  A*M*A*Z*I*N*G. The place we were at was actually an old military post…it really made me stop and think about how much we take for granted in our lives. Knowing that soldiers once walked where I was walking to stand guard and protect our land was such an amazing, yet totally eerie feeling.

Anyway, here we are…windblown, hot (abnormally hot for San Fran…go figure that I would have such luck!!), tired and just a typical family of four checking out the Golden Gate Bridge!!

Home Again, Home Again

WHEW! Some of you know and many of you don’t, but we have been gone since Wednesday morning and just got home about an hour ago! The first load of laundry is in and the pizza rolls are cooling and we are off to recuperate from our trip!!

Trip where you might be asking?! Napa Valley and San Francisco! We have known we were going for months now, but I don’t like to advertise the fact that we are gone…even though the neighbors were keeping an eye on things and the alarm system was set!
So…needless to say, I have TONS of pictures to share over the next few days!! So, keep checking back! For now, I am off to eat those pizza rolls and watch one of the many shows we have waiting for us on our DVR!!

Flashback Friday!!!

I realize that this is photo is not so great in quality, but I am sharing anyway! We didn’t get our “good” camera until closer to the time Gentry was born so lots of our early shots of Huntler are not the best quality. But I am not complaining…at least we have pictures to look at!

Huntler had just turned 10 months in this picture and was hiding in amongst his toys under an end table! Love those chubby little cheeks! He doesn’t have an ounce of fat on him these days…but those dark brown eyes haven’t changed a bit!! Love you little man!

Two Peas in a Pod

So I actually took these pictures a week or so ago and decided to add them since I haven’t had anything earth-shattering to share lately! I got a new lens a couple of weeks ago and I was determined to learn to shoot in manual and spent an entire afternoon working on focusing manually…HA!! I took 183 pictures and a tiny little handful are all that turned out! Ay, ay, ay…I don’t know if I will ever learn to take pictures the professional way!! Automatic is SO much easier but I desperately want to learn all the ins and outs of shooting manually…I guess I need to keep practicing!! Every time I shoot the kids I want pictures I can keep…not a bunch I have to delete, so I do what I know and don’t go outside of my comfort zone!!

Anyway, the kids were playing with these “pea pods” and having a blast! Huntler kept calling them “he haws!” Silly guy! He was totally NOT understanding me that day!
Out of all of these, I really like the way this first one turned out! I somehow (purely through luck I assure you!) managed to focus on Gentry (albeit her shirt and not her face!!) and the pods are blurry!
Photobucket
I hesitated on whether to share this one or not! I have this “thing” about Huntler’s fingernails…I like them short and they drive me crazy in this picture! Kind of like his hair…he gets it cut ALL the time just because I like it super short!

And it is nothing but smiles from our sweet yet sassy Gentry girl!!

Randomness

So, anytime the weather forecast looks like this when you live in the desert, it is reason to celebrate!! Lots of clouds and a high of only 81 in May…WHOO HOO!! I am so not a hot weather girl! Bring on the clouds, rain and cooler temps any day!

Photobucket

And this is my new camera bag…I outgrew the old one back at Christmas and finally decided it was time to get a new one! However, I didn’t want just a plain jane black boring bag – I had to have a cute one! I found this bag on some scrapbook sites for $69.99, but I bought mine from Wal-Mart for HALF the price…and I am perfectly happy with it so far!! I think the colors are slightly different than the “twice the price” bag, but come on! And, the shoulder strap is a tad on the short side if you want to wear it across your body, but it fits me perfectly!!
Photobucket

You can probably tell that there is nothing much going on here…just another day in the life! I took some pics of the kids over the weekend but it was getting dark and they are all blurry, so I don’t have much to post about at all!! But…I did not want to abandon my dear blog or its faithful followers!

So, one last thing on this CLOUDY Arizona morning…check out these cuties!! I get e-mails from Gap every other day and 99% of the time I just delete them, but this morning I clicked on the link and this is what I saw! Well, okay, I actually saw a whole lot more but these are the two that fit my munchkins!! I am still having a great debate in my mind over whether or not I want them! I won’t say need because we all know they do not “need” anything, but these sure are some cute little tees!

And on that note, I am off! I think I hear Miss Gentry beginning to stir and I need to go love on my snotty nosed baby girl! (She has gone from waking up at 5:30 to sleeping until 8:30 – silly girl!)

Mama, Mommy, Mom…

Writing usually comes so easily for me…I sit here at the keyboard and the words just pour out of my heart and onto the screen. I am obviously over-analyzing this post because I am struggling to make it perfect…perfect for that one day when my children are old enough to read my heartfelt thoughts and words. But the truth of the matter is, I am far from perfect.

I am just a mama who each and every day struggles to be the best I can. As I type this I am already tearing up…I have so, so many things I hope to teach and tell my kids as I raise them to the best of my ability. I want them to experience life to the fullest and cherish each moment. To take chances and not be afraid to make mistakes. To love. To be kind. To have hope. To believe in themselves. To be good friends, good people.  To listen. To smile. To laugh every single day. And the list goes on and on and on. I am no different than any other mama out there…I simply want the best for my kids.
I hope as they grow they see how much they are truly loved. I hope they learn through the example I set. I hope they realize how much they teach me each and every day. Patience. Wisdom. How to play. How to love so deeply it hurts. How to kiss an owie and instantly make it all better. How to brighten even the darkest of days.
Moving out here has by far been the hardest obstacle I have ever had to overcome…the darkest days of my life. For, you see, I left behind my mom in the process. That was hard, really, really hard. No, we did not see each other daily or even every week, but IF we wanted to, it was just a three hour drive. It’s not quite that simple when you live 15+ hours and hundreds of miles away. I wish it were as easy for me as it was for Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz…to click my heels three times (of course those are red, sparkly shoes I am wearing) and say “There’s no place like home,” and suddenly I am back in my happy little life in Kansas! I have daydreamed of that many times since moving out here!! But the truth of the matter is life doesn’t work like that. And despite the fact that this journey in the desert is far from easy and sometimes down right hard, I am learning from it each and every day. I am certain I must be learning valuable life lessons that will come in handy with my own kids one day (otherwise it wouldn’t be so hard)…that thought is what helps me plow through those days I want to cry and pack up the kids and move home with my mom!
My mom and I are very, very close. We always have been…maybe not as close as we are today, but we never went through that hard patch so many experience. She is always, always there for me when I need her and whenever she can, she’ll lend a helping hand. We talk on the phone every single day…usually more like three times a day when I call to bug her with the mundane details of life in Arizona!! I guess only a mom and a best friend (love you too Lisa!!) will listen to you ramble on about the most boring of things when you are lonely!! I love my mom dearly and hope through reading this she sees just how much!
Ahhh Huntler. What would I do without you little man?! I can’t believe you will be four this year. What happened to my baby?! When I blinked you grew up on me! You seem to be changing before my very eyes. Just today Daddy and I were talking about how you are so much more of a “kid” now. The things you say, the way you act…you are LONG past the toddler stage, no matter how sad it makes Mommy! Your are growing and thriving which is what we want, but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch! You will start school next fall. You are so excited but it makes Mommy so, so sad! Time used to stand still but ever since you entered the world, it has flown by! You are the best big brother Gentry could ever have! You love and care for her so much…we can see it in your eyes as you light up when she wakes up and the way you patiently wait at the patio door and hold it open for her as she slowly saunters in. You worry about her and for her…if someone touches her beloved puppy or if she loses her binky, you are the first to come tell us. That says so much about your character. I hope you grow up to be just as sweet, thoughtful and considerate as you are today. If you do, then I will know I have done my job and done it right. I love you more than you will ever know…until you have a baby of your own one day. But for now know that I love you ALL the way to the moon and back little man, all the way to the moon and back.
And sassy Miss Gentry. We were absolutely over the moon with Huntler when he was born but the moment we knew you were on the way, our hearts opened and you were loved every bit as much as your big brother. That love has not changed…or maybe it has. I guess I thought I loved you guys as much as I possibly could, but the crazy thing is, my heart manages to grow each and every day and so does my love for you both. It is deeper and more intense than you can even imagine! Gentry, I love your sassiness. You are so feisty and opinionated and although it is slightly challenging, it is those traits of your personality that will take you far in life (so long as you aren’t obnoxious about it!!). I can’t believe you are almost two already. You have grown up so much faster than Huntler did…you talk so much and carry on just like you are three already. I am so sad to have lost that “babyness” in you so quickly! But you are your own person and there is no holding you back! I love your spunk and your sense of style! You are such a girly girl and I am so lucky for that! I love that white blonde hair of yours, your baby blues and that gappy toothed smile…for when I am sad, that smile will undoubtedly bring happiness to my heart.
Huntler and Gentry…thank you for being you. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for teaching me more than I can even begin to express. You two are the reasons for this day, the reasons I celebrate Mother’s Day and the reasons I celebrate every day. I love you both…to the moon and back and to the moon and back again!!
I have put these pictures up before, but they are some of my favorites, so I am sharing them again! (Thanks to Tonya for the fabulous editing!!)
