Technicolor Dream World

Photobucket

Okie doke…it has been a long day and I am just flat not in the mood to edit our pics from Saturday in San Francisco, so I am just adding this one I somehow managed to forget from Thursday!

I used an action on it called “Technicolor Dream World.” Have I mentioned how much I love actions?! Anyway, it makes it pop for sure!
We are SUPER excited as we have friends coming out tomorrow (Thursday) to visit and stay several days! So, that being said, I am not sure when I’ll have time to get the rest of our trip up. I can’t get overly motivated since there really aren’t any great ones to share anyway, so I may just fill ya in a little bit and call it good!!
So Saturday was our 5 year anniversary…craziness!! These last five years have absolutely FLOWN by! I remember our wedding day like it was yesterday, but then I look at the fact that we have two kids (one of which will be four in just a few months!!) and I am quickly snapped back into reality that these five years have somehow snuck by on me!!
We spent the day with the kids and some people from work…but we had a great time! We made it to Muir Woods and Stinson Beach and had a blast! None of the kids were one bit excited about the beach. In fact, I think I can safely say they were all three (remember we were with others) petrified and wanted nothing to do with it! Huntler was fine and then this huge wave came in and got our feet wet and that was the end of it for him!! And Gentry never did get overly excited.
Muir Woods was incredible…it was a redwood forest and simply amazing. If you are ever in San Fran, you have to check it out!! You won’t regret it!! I am not even a nature-ish kind of girl and I was impressed if that tells you anything!!
So…ready for the biggie??? No…sorry Grandma Debbie, I am not pregnant!! I left our kids with a friend Saturday night and Chris and I went to dinner. Not alone exactly…it was the farewell dinner for the trip…but alone in the sense that it was all adult conversation, there was no cutting up of food or the spilling of lemonade all over. Just a nice, peaceful, relaxing evening among adults!! We had a wonderful time, as did the kids! They were actually with two different “babysitters” and did perfect! They never once asked for us or anything!! (Although that makes me a little sad, there is NO DOUBT that I would rather have them forget all about me than be crying and miserable because they wanted me!)
So, this was huge for me. We never, ever, ever go anywhere without the kids. EVER. I can count on two fingers (three now) the times they have stayed with a non family member. And I can count on one hand the times they have stayed with family. Get the picture about never leaving them?!! No wonder I am always exhausted!!
I spent all day cleaning and getting this house whipped back into shape so I am off to find something on the DVR and pass out! Hope you are all well!

I am SO PROUD of YOU for leaving the kids for a dinner out on your anniversary! WAY TO GO!!!
It IS a BIG step and I still remember how hard it was to do that, and it’s nearly 30 years later… But it’s absolutely essential for the good of everyone involved.
The kids will grow up and move out and you’ll be right back to just the 2 of you. So, hard as it is, you have to have a part of your life that is not centered on the kids. And of course, it’s good for the kids to realize the world doesn’t fall apart when they’re separated from you for just a bit!
Day in and day out, with the kids getting so much attention, it can start to feel like YOU don’t really matter. By setting aside time to focus on each other, you renew the love you have and get to really communicate the things on your heart.
You all deserve a gold star – including the babysitters!
    Love, Mom

Congrats on 5 years. It is so hard to leave your kiddos. I have the same problem with Hadley. We rarely leave her but are going to maybe take a trip this summer. We will see if I can do it.

Ah…I just read your mom’s comment and I’m tearing up! So sweet! CONGRATS on 5 years, it goes so fast!! I’m so happy that you got an adult evening out-good for you two! I know it was a big step for you, but you’ll get better at leaving them. I guess it’s easy for me to say, since I have to leave Barrett everyday ;( But he’s only 4 months and we’ve already had 3-4 date nights while he was at one of the grandmas! I love him to pieces, but my relationship with my hubby is important too.
