Cupcakes, Cupcakes, Cupcakes

Wow…I can’t believe it is Sunday night already! What an incredibly productive weekend we had around here! You might have noticed I didn’t blog…I am FAR more productive when I stay OFF the computer!! Ooh, I LOVE it when we are able to get so much done!!

Most of my weekend was spent working on party stuff, minus some swimming and errand running! Oh, and laundry, cleaning and all of that too!! I actually even managed to get a couple of things going for my soon-to-be Etsy shop! WHEW!
So first of all check out this ADORABLE fabric! It came last week! I am not quite sure what I am going to do with it, but the more I look at it, the more I DON’T want to cut it up (I only have half a yard!)! It is seriously SO darn cute! Pink background with sweet little cupcakes all over it!! I bought it on Etsy…but the seller doesn’t have any more listed. (It was listed as “Japanese Cupcakes on Pink Fabric” in case anyone is interested!)
Photobucket
Oh, and what could it be?! Shimmery, scented and oh so fun bath soaps!! LOVE how these little guys turned out! I only did them in three colors (blue, yellow and green) because those are the only colors of dye I had – And since I honestly did not have a CLUE what I was getting myself into I didn’t want to buy too much stuff I wouldn’t use. However, next time I do it, I think I’ll pick up some more shades to work with! Yes, I said “next time.” This was about the easiest thing I have ever attempted! I picked up all my supplies at Michael’s and then just followed the directions on the brick of soap and went from there. SIMPLE! Since I was using a candy mold (I couldn’t find a cupcake soap mold), they are thinner than a regular bar of soap, but they will be perfect for a little one!!
I bought the “special glitter” that is designed for soap making, but I honestly think that you could probably use super fine regular glitter too! I didn’t notice anything special about it!
Photobucket
And a close up…I stuck them in little clear bags and tied ribbon around all of them!! See the sparkles?!
Photobucket
And now for the lollipops. WOW is all I have to say about that! Candy making is an art for sure! Not that I think mine turned out too shabby for a first-timer, but they are FAR from perfect! But for that matter, the soaps aren’t perfect either! And even if they had been perfect, shoving them in the bags and trying to tie the ribbon on them would have ruined their perfection anyway!
Photobucket
Photobucket
And a close up of one of them…you can see my fingernail left a little gash in it!! I was trying super hard to work fast outside because it was still about 100 degrees when I was taking pictures and the chocolate was softening up!!
Photobucket
And now for the game I eluded to earlier! These pictures do NOT do these Bingo cards justice. They don’t even come close!! The color and detail is so perfect! Chris made these today and they are seriously about the cutest things I think I have ever seen! Even cuter than my soaps and lollies!!
I am far from a computer whiz but my darling husband is! He knows our design program like it is second nature! He made up “Barnyard Bingo” for Huntler’s birthday last year and it was a HUGE hit! The kids came in and played a few rounds after being outside to wind down before presents and cake. Anyway, it will probably be a staple at any birthday party we ever have now because it was such a hit and something you can adapt for different ages! This set of cards has 9 boxes so it is easy enough for the little ones too!!
Last year Chris whipped it up the morning of the party and in the chaos forgot to print a few of the animals…It doesn’t seem like a big deal but one little guy could not win because we didn’t have two of the cards he needed to get a BINGO! This year we are working ahead and should be good to go!!
Oh…and in case anyone is wondering, we bought the images from istockphoto. We had to use two sets so we had enough different styles of cupcakes.
Photobucket
Photobucket
And I think that just about sums it up! I have a few more soaps and lollipops to get wrapped up before I head to bed and then those two items will be checked off the to-do list! And since I have been up and going nonstop since 6:15 this morning, I should probably get that done and start getting ready for bed! We have a playdate at a bounce house in the morning and are then going to visit a new baby in the afternoon! It will be a busy day, so if you don’t hear from me until Tuesday, that is why!
Hope the pictures were worth the w
ait! Maybe I’ll have lots of fun comments waiting for me next time I log on…{Hint, Hint!!}

Soon…

Well, the lollies are all done and sitting on the kitchen counter as I type! YEAH!! I am just waiting for the sun to start setting before I haul them out to take pictures…chocolate and extreme Arizona heat do NOT go hand in hand! And I don’t take pictures inside if I can help it…I prefer the natural light of outside!

Anyway, I know lots of you keep checking in and I haven’t updated yet because I don’t have any pictures just yet…but I will later tonight! So, sometime between bedtime and morning I will have pictures posted and stuff to share!!
And for being super patient you get a sneak peek at one of our F*U*N birthday games!! Chris has been busy helping me with party stuff too!!!

Adventures in Candy Molds!

So I somehow managed to whip out my super cute, plumeria scented and oh-so sparkly little cupcake soaps without a problem! They are done, ready to be packaged up and passed out at the party! (I’ll take pictures to share – don’t worry!!) Now, the lollipops on the other hand are giving me some trouble!! AHHHHHH!!!

I managed to get all the little heart “sprinkles” and the toppers painted in without a problem. It is time consuming, yes, but not overly challenging. And then I even got the brown in for the first batch of wrappers. No biggie! But the white for the color of the actual cupcake? Ay ay ay!!
I bought a little bottle at Michael’s the other day to melt my chocolates in and then squeeze the chocolate into the mold. Seems simple, right? Well, it isn’t rocket science by any means but I have yet to perfect the technique, and for a perfectionist, that is hard!! Not to mention that we had a lollipop making playdate yesterday and Lindsey warned me the bottles would melt…and what happens to me? My one and only bottle melted!! Looks like it is back to Michael’s for me!!
The first batch are sitting in the fridge as I type. Once I am done I am going to check them out!
I did stick the mold in the freezer between each step (there are three steps) this time and although I am sure it helped a lot, I still had some issues with the brown running into the white. And the back is CERTAINLY not as smooth as I thought it would be! I am racking my brain trying to remember if the ones I ordered off of E-bay last year were super smooth and perfect…but for the life of me I can not recall!!
I should not worry about it…these are for little munchkins ages one to about four. They could care less! They won’t even look twice at them before they stick them in their mouths!! And although I won’t be losing sleep over this, it sure would be nice if they turned out how I see them in my mind!!
By the way…I made a super simple practice batch of these lollipops the other day and when I got one out of the fridge for Huntler, he said, “Wow Mom, these are AWESOME. Cool!” What?? What is my almost four year old doing talking like an eight  year old?! It did make me smile though that he noticed the details in them! That’s my boy! The poor child is doomed with two perfectionistic parents – he will be as detail oriented as they come!!

Flashback Friday!!!

Once again…here it is Friday already! WHERE does the time go?!! For my Flashback Friday pictures this week I decided to incorporate a family tradition as well…Christmas jammies!!

Since Huntler’s VERY first Christmas we have been buying him a special pair of jammies to wear on Christmas morning!! Since moving out here to Arizona, we have now incorporated those jammies into our trip to the Polar Express (another tradition that is AMAZING and deserves an entire post!!) as well!!
In the past these have not exactly been the cheapest of jammies I must admit! I am extremely picky about what my kids wear…I won’t deny that…but when it comes to jammies, Carter’s are the best!! However, Carter’s just doesn’t quite have what I am after when it comes to Christmas, so we have ended up getting the beloved PJ’s at Baby Gap or Gymboree. But, it is once a year and a tradition…and look at how CUTE they are!!
These are Baby Gap…LOVE THEM!! I have saved every pair so far. I am packing them up in totes so that one day we can look back on them. A friend once suggested taking bits and pieces from my favorite outfits of the kids and making a quilt or something. I am quite certain I couldn’t take scissors and hack into expensively cute Gymbo or Baby Gap everyday clothes, but I do love the idea for the Christmas jammies! What a neat Christmas quilt full of memories!!
Anyway…December 2004…Huntler sporting his fleece Baby Gap’s! (By the way…I have a bazillion things to do today and I did NOT do any editing to any of these…that is why they don’t look all that great!!)
Photobucket
Here he is in December 0f 2005…Baby Gap again. He got a new wagon for Christmas from Grandma and Papa!!
Photobucket
And then comes December of 2006 and we add sassy little Gentry girl to the mix! How fun!! We bought these at Baby Gap as well…I hunt high and low for the perfect PJ’s and we had to drive a LONG LONG ways to find these and then they didn’t even have them in stock and we ended up ordering online!! AHHH!!!!
Here is Huntler getting his bell from Santa on the Polar Express. I LOVE this shot! To most it wouldn’t mean anything, but to us it means everything. There is so much magic at Christmas and with Santa…
Photobucket
And chubby little Gentry sitting on Papa’s lap in her pink version of the same print!
Photobucket
And here is the most recent pair…these are from Gymbo. I honestly could NOT figure out if they were for boys or girls, so I bought each one the same pair and jazzed Gentry’s up with a headband!! That was during the time where she would NOT leave headbands in, but I tried!
This is the fireplace at the Grand Canyon Railway. We have pictures on it from the year before too! I know I have said a million times that I can’t wait to get home to Kansas, but WOW I am going to miss the Polar Express! We have only been twice but we have had THE BEST and most memorable times each trip! We are all booked for this year and can’t wait to create more memories!
Photobucket
And while I am on the subject of family traditions…I’ll throw another one of ours out at ya! I do not like junk. We do not keep random little odds and ends. There are no knick knacks sitting about on our tables. We just don’t do it!! I can’t stand all that little stuff looking junky and taking up space!! Never have, never will!! Nor am I a huge fan of t-shirts. Sure, I wear them to bed, but it is a RARE occasion when I am seen sporting a regular ole’ tee out and about.
Where I am going with this is…random knick knacks (thimbles, shot glasses, spoons) and t-shirts seem to be the most popular thing to buy when you are on a trip…a memento that says, “Hey, I’ve been to Washington D.C.” So, starting on our honeymoon, we have been collecting Christmas ornaments. We get one each and every place we visit…not necessarily each “place,” but each trip. As we have added the kids to our lives, we have also started picking up an ornament for each of them and tucking it away in a little tote in their closet. I write the month and year on each one and then one day when they are all grown up and have their first Christmas trees, they will have ornaments to put on it. Just thought I would share! It is a fun little piece of who we are and where we’ve been!!
And on that happy little note, I am off! I have soaps to make, lollipops to get started on and a whole LOTTA stuff to accomplish today!
Happy Friday!

Busy Bee

Did you notice I didn’t get a post up yesterday?!! We (I) have been so darn busy this week! I am not exactly sure what I am accomplishing, but I do know that our dresser is becoming more and more visible! While working on those sweet little invites I piled all sorts of random stuff on the dresser to keep it up and out of the way of the munchkins and am just now getting around to putting it all away! I seem to have bought a lot of little things lately that landed up there…party stuff as well as some odds and ends for my Etsy shop! YAY! Can’t wait to get that up and going!!

And not that anyone truly cares, but we spent last night glued to the TV! We were behind on a bunch of our DVR’s shows and had to catch up! I am not going to ruin it, but anyone who hasn’t watched The Bachelorette better hop to it! Seriously…it was one of the most intense episodes ever!! And then there was America’s Got Talent, The Baby Borrowers, and Deadliest Catch. Yeah…we are reality TV junkies! But last night was good…I was crying during two of the shows!!
And then there is the wildfire that is burning down here. We are no where close to it, but while sitting in bed last night as the light was fading I said to Chris…that seriously looks like a fire. So we came down and got on the internet and sure enough there is a wildfire down here. It is nowhere close to our home, but close enough that we could see the red glow and the smoke billowing. Today the skies that direction are really hazy and the mountains aren’t visible. Apparently they couldn’t start fighting this fire until today because the terrain was too rough to try to do anything in the dark. It was started by lightning…that is the scary thing about life in the desert and monsoon season. This one is starting out with a bang for sure. The thing is…we didn’t get even one DROP of rain!
Alright, it is early but I am going to get started on my day! I have clothes in the dryer already and a few dishes soaking in the sink! We have another busy one with a playdate this morning!!
But I could not leave you without a picture of my little sweeties! This was taken back in May but I never shared it!!

A Happy Heart

First of all, how cute is this little one?! I took this picture on Sunday night…she was getting really brave in the pool! After “the incident” she has been a little, um, standoffish. But that night she was back on the saddle again and ready to kick and float and splash with the best of ‘em!! It was fun to see her having fun! We actually all four got to swim at once! I am usually up on the side with her while Chris and Huntler practice their skills!

I am trying to get outside of my comfort zone and snap on an angle!! And of course…this has that signature vintage feel I am LOVING these days!! It took every ounce of self control I have not to “vintage up” the cupcake pictures from yesterday’s post!!
Photobucket

Okay…now that you all have so happily looked at my sweet baby, I am wondering if ANYONE out there has any experience with candy molds? I ordered one off of E-bay a while back that has four cupcakes on it – I am making chocolate lollipops as one of the party favors. I pulled out all my goods today and played with it and they actually turned out pretty darn cute. Chris was absolutely in shock because he knows my history with all kitchen related activities (other than doing dishes!!) and the fact that something so cute and crafty and EDIBLE was actually recognizable was something to shout about in itself!!
Anyway, I of course see all the imperfections! They are very detailed little cupcakes with heart sprinkles and a bigger heart as the topper…super cute! I was just curious as to if anyone else has ever attempted using candy molds and has any advice or tips? I used my little brushes and brushed in the chocolate where I wanted it and everything!! I am still in shock myself!
And while on this topic…does anyone make soaps out there?! I am going to use this same mold to make soaps as little favors as well! Yes, I know I am going to be busy! That is why I started planning MONTHS ago! Anyway, I have never made soaps either but plan to just buy the stuff at Michael’s and follow the directions!!
And one more thing…I took the kids to the splash park this morning. Before we went I was lathering Huntler up in sunscreen and this is how our conversation went:
“This is so I don’t get sunburned, right Mommy?”
“That’s right Huntler. Sunburns hurt and we don’t want to get burnt out there.”
“Cuz then I’ll be all black, right Mommy?”
“Well, not exactly. You would be red.”
“No, I’d be black.”
Okay little man, okay!! He knows when you burn things in the oven they turn black!! I guess it only makes sense that people would turn black if they were burnt too!!
Silly, silly boy!!

Pupcake Invites!!

No, that is not a spelling error! Huntler calls cupcakes “pupcakes” and to switch things up a bit on what has turned out to be one LONG afternoon and evening, I decided to throw that in!! Everything was going really well until about 3:00 or 3:30 this afternoon and since then, we have been on a downhill slide!!

Gentry had some M*A*J*O*R constipation issues today (she has always had issues) and for the first time in a long, long while, I had to give her a suppository. Not at all fun for her and truly not pleasant for me. To make matters worse, she was flailing around and tightening her little rear end so badly the first time I didn’t get enough of the liquid in her and had to do it all over again (I am NOT good at this kind of thing). So, a good chunk of time following her nap was spent holding and consoling and helping a little one who was NOT doing well. And in case you are wondering…she finally went and all was well in her little world after that!!
Then somehow or another Huntler got hurt, the wind was blowing my invites all over and ruining my photo shoot, the kids went from being happy to instantly grumpy from exhaustion and I myself am flat worn out!! And it’s just another manic Monday!! WHEW!
On the bright side though…I LOVE LOVE LOVE how these {sweet} little invites turned out! The photos SO do not do them justice! If I can get around early enough in the morning I may take them back out and try my mini photo shoot again when the wind isn’t blowing them everywhere and the light is a little better! We’ll see though…the sun rises AWFULLY early in these parts and I am already up later than I wanted to be!!
First off…in an attempt to combine my fun paper invites with the 3D invites I have been dreaming of, I jazzed up these cute little take out boxes and plan to stick cupcakes in them in the morning before hand delivering them! I just curled some ribbon and sprinkled on a little glitter and called it good!!
Photobucket
Photobucket
And here are the paper invites!! The colored part of the cupcake top opens to reveal all of the wording! I sprinkled all sorts of glitter on these little gems and I LOVE them! And if you are ever wanting a fun little idea…stick a magnet on the back of a handmade invite and then it can be stuck on the fridge! I did this on the ladybug invites from last  year and then again on the cupcakes.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I had a pic up showing the inside, but decided to take it down for right now. I have NO idea who all reads this and although I share just about everything on here…there are some details I am keeping to myself!!
Here is what we decided on for the wording though…
Sugar And Sprinkles
There’s So Much To Do
Little Miss Gentry
Is Turning Two!
Shimmer And Sparkle
And All Things Fun…
Dinner And Treats For Everyone!
The Party Begins At 4:00 On The Dot
Gentry’s House Marks The Spot…
Friends Will Gather To Visit And Play
July — Is The Day!
And this batch up sparkly cupcakes will have teeny little holes punched in them and be hung with fishing line from the ceiling during the party…not sure where yet, but we’ll figure that out! They are the same size as the invites, but each side has a different patterned paper so when they spin they will all be unique!!
I have LOTS of fun ideas of craftiness with cupcakes for my up and coming Etsy shop!! Have I mentioned that yet on here? Don’t think so…Yes, I am working on fun creative goods but it will take me a few weeks to get a banner, shipping supplies and everything all lined out! Believe me, I’ll share it when it is ready!!
Photobucket
Alrighty then…on that note I need to get to bed! If I stand any chance of getting up and out the door snapping away before the sprinkler system goes off and the sun gets to be too bright, I have GOT to get some rest! Let me know what ya think of these!!

Sunkissed

Here is a shot I snapped last night of the munchkins on “my” floatie! However, since I am rarely on it when I am in the pool, I share!! I of course Photoshopped the picture and gave it a warm, summery feel with a total vintage twist! And a little bit of texture too! Can I just tell you I LOVE Photoshop and I love the amazing designers of great actions even more?!!

Photobucket

As for the much anticipated cupcake invites…all I can say is Y*U*M*M*Y! They are done and unbelievably cute! I can’t wait to share…but I am waiting until tonight and that short hour of great daylight to take pictures and let you all get a glimpse of the sweet goodness that will be going on here in just a few short weeks!!!
I have had one of THE most productive days in quite some time so I need to get back at it! Huntler and I are baking cupcakes while Gentry is napping and I am sure the first batch is done cooling by now!! I have fun things in store for these “real” cupcakes too…check back tonight or in the morning for a little look-see!

Summer Lovin’

So it has been another whirlwind weekend around here! Birthday parties, laundry, yard work, more laundry, cleaning bathrooms, the 55 minute trek to the scrapbook store and back… Yep, a busy one for sure!!

Why is it that the weekends always go by so fast?! Chris has been consumed with studying for and then taking this test for work. He had to drive about half an hour or so this afternoon to go take this test, but he passed so that is now behind  us…WHEW! I feel like the last two days have been regular ole weekdays with him so preoccupied and me doing it all!
Anyway, since we knew he was going to be gone for a few hours, the kids and I drove all the way BACK to the scrapbook store to get some more paper goods for Gentry’s invites. We changed the way we are making them and can only get one complete top on a sheet of 12×12 paper and I had figured on at least two. If anything changes now, I have PLENTY of paper! I didn’t want to risk going back yet again, so I stocked up! I LOVE the line, so I can always find a fun use for it I am sure!
Anyway, I plan to take pics of the invites hopefully tonight or in the morning…depending on when we get them done! So you have that little bit of fun to look forward to!!
Here are a couple of pictures from this past week in the pool…once again with my 50 mm lens! LOVE THESE SHOTS!! I mean, how could I not?! Two undeniably happy and darling kids with the love of my life?! Talk about the good stuff!!!

Six on Saturday

Well so much for trying to get on track and stay on track with all my weekly blog entries, hunh?! Things have been abnormally crazy lately and even though we are now home and back in the swing of things, life is just busy!

Although now and then I post without adding a picture, I HATE to do that! I am all about pictures with my posts! This one has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with anything in my post, but it is cute and has a funny story!!
When we were back in Kansas the kids got to see a teeny tiny itty bitty baby water turtle up close and personal. My brother had caught it and given it to his girlfriend and she brought it over to my parents for the kids to see. Huntler was “okay” with it…meaning as long as it kept its distance, all was well. Gentry is super skiddish these days and wanted nothing to do with the cute little fella!!
Anyway, we were out swimming a few nights ago and she saw this turtle pool toy and about came unglued. She was in pure panic mode and crying and flailing and all over the place. Now, I realize she was beyond terrified, but it was HILARIOUS!!! I put the turtle behind me and as long as she couldn’t see it, she was fine. Well, she moved and saw it and the panic started all over again. This happened several times while we were out that night and although I hate for either one of my kids to be scared, it was so stinkin’ funny!!
Here is Huntler with his turtle friend!!
Photobucket

And since we have a birthday party to attend in just a couple of hours (less than that really!), I am going to keep the rest of this short! But here are six bits of randomness about me!!
Things I prefer:
  1. Hamburgers over hotdogs
  2. Iced tea over hot tea
  3. Cake over ice cream
  4. Dogs over cats
  5. Rain over sun
  6. Cold over heat
