A Beaming Boy and His Shiny New Bike

While we were back home in Kansas Huntler was lucky enough to get to ride a “big kid bike!” The poor child…he is well past three and a half and we were still making him ride this tiny little rainbow trike! He loves that trike – he truly does – but considering that when he sits on it and pedals his knees go up to his chin, he is obviously in need of something a little more his size! We knew we needed to get him a bigger one – we had just been putting it off!

Well, with four grandkids all wanting to ride the two bikes that Grandma and Papa had, Papa rushed out to Wal-Mart to pick up what was supposed to be ONE more bike, but turned into two! Anyway, he bought a super cool Spiderman bike that Huntler absolutely loved! It was a true big kid bike…a chain, training wheels, hand brakes…the whole nine yards!!
Needless to say, when we got back home to Arizona, we decided that we couldn’t put it off any longer – we HAD to get Huntler a new bike! We even stopped at Wal-Mart on our way home from the airport the day we arrived! However, their selection was pretty much non-existent and Huntler was beyond exhausted and crying, so we left with our milk and laundry soap (two musts upon returning home from a big trip!!) and that was it!
So last weekend we loaded up and headed to Toys R Us. I was thinking we would just go to a different Wally World, but Chris was pretty set on Toys R Us!! They did not disappoint!! After piddling around and trying out no less that five bikes, Huntler finally landed on his big decision…the red one!! It just so happens that the red one was the most expensive one he tested…but considering Chris and my tastes, we can’t say we were surprised! Lucky for us, they happened to be having a little promotion and this red Tony Hawk bike came with a “free” helmet!
By the time we got home Saturday night it was too late to put it together, but Sunday morning the boys spent some time in the garage and got this shiny red bike ready to roll!
Here are some of the pictures I took. I was experimenting with my new lens (the one I got a couple of months ago…not another new one!!) and I LOVE the way they all turned out!!
I also experimented with textures on this first one…something new for me!! I am still learning, but I am so loving the vintage feel these days!!
Pedal Huntler, Pedal!!

Big kid bikes take a lot more concentration than those little trikes!! And I’m sure it didn’t help that I had this little photo shoot set up in the grass for lighting purposes!!
Photobucket
Okay…I LOVE this one! LOVE IT * LOVE IT * LOVE IT! See that tiny little roll of tummy sticking over his pants?! I mean, how CUTE is that?! Seriously…this is one of my faves from this group…maybe even one of my all time faves!
Photobucket
He is quite obsessed with the whole helmet thing! A couple of years ago when he got his trike for Christmas from Grandma and Papa, I suggested getting him a helmet. Everyone but me thought it was just hilarious because falling off of his little bitty trike was pretty much nothing. And then I brought up the whole helmet thing again when we bought this new bike and Huntler was all over the idea! Had the bike not come with the helmet, we would have bought one…but hey, this one was “free,” remember?!! Anyway, yes, I realize it has training wheels and should he fall off, it probably won’t be that big of a deal, but it just takes ONE time of landing the wrong way for something to go terribly wrong! So, little man, I am glad you are all about the helmet!!
Photobucket
Shiny new axles and spokes…
Photobucket
Big kid tires…with pegs. Let’s hope it is a LONG while before he figures out what pegs are!
Photobucket
And he is SUPER pumped about having HAND BRAKES!!! WOW! He goes on and on about them!!
Photobucket
Photobucket
I can’t believe my little sweetie is getting so big! I mean, today it is just a new big kid bike but before long he’ll be riding without the training wheels! Buying the bike isn’t the big deal…it is the growth and independence t
hat it signifies that gets me. It seems like just yesterday he was rolling over and learning to go down the stairs by himself…and now he is riding a big kid bike? I don’t want to forget one single moment…not one! Huntler, I love you more than you can ever even begin to imagine! Although I am so sad you are growing up so fast on me, I enjoy every single moment of watching who you are becoming. Your caring nature, your intensity, your funny little comments! Each day you give me so much to smile about and be grateful for! Thank you, Huntleroo, thank you!

Little Boy, Big Dreamer

I am STILL in the midst of sorting through all the photos on the computer (every spare second has been devoted to that project!!) but wanted to take a little break to update my blog!! The good news is that I am now in February of THIS year, so I am really making some progress!! There are still tons of photos to click through, but not nearly as many as I have already been through! Maybe tonight I’ll finish ‘er up! I am hoping so! I have lots more on the camera waiting to download but am not letting myself until I am done sorting!! Gives me some incentive!! And believe me that from now on, as I download, I will delete the bad ones! No more of this spending hours weeding through bad pictures business for this chickadee!!

Anyway, Chris took this picture when we were back in Kansas. It is at his grandpa’s pond. While Gentry and I were napping one afternoon (traveling takes it out of us!), Chris and his mom took Huntler fishing. It was his first real fishing trip!! They didn’t catch anything, but I think they had a nice time!! This shot turned out really cute!! So much concentration in that sweet little guy!!
Nothing says cute fishing picture like a little bit of vintage!!

Party Planning Help!!!

Okay…so I know there are LOTS of you out there who read this blog every day or two and I am needing some input from each of you!

Here is the deal…Gentry’s birthday is just about a month away and I have been brainstorming like crazy on ideas to make her party perfect. Not that she will have any recollection of it whatsoever, but because I enjoy party planning and paying careful attention to EVERY last detail!!
Anyway, as I have mentioned before, the theme is cupcakes. Check out this post and this post if you have any questions!!

Now, I am definitely NOT changing the theme…I LOVE it and I have already bought all sorts of sweet goodies to make this bash complete! HOWEVER, I have been thinking and thinking of the wording to make the invitation fit right in and was struggling. Then last night something hit me!
Gentry has this fuzzy little (as in quarter sized!!) pink bird she is obsessed with. She calls it a “tweet tweet.” And then there is also the fact that she is obsessed with real live not so cute birds…and they are tweet tweets too! She is all the time looking out the windows and calling for them.
So anyway, she was playing with this bird last night and kept saying “tweet tweet.” Somehow the idea popped into my ever thinking little mind to incorporate birds into the party…the whimsical, cute ones! Not the germy, dirty real ones!! So what I am wondering is would it be totally crazy to have a bird and cupcake themed party?? I can’t decide and Chris wasn’t overly helpful in giving me feedback!
Here are some of my wording options…PLEASE leave me some of your thoughts! I have to be making a decision in the next day or so because we have got to get the invites done! And speaking of invites…they won’t change. They will still be cupcakes as will the majority of the decor. I was simply thinking I could cut out some birds from some of my scrapbook paper and hang from the ceiling along with my cupcakes. And maybe cut out some little birds to stick in wire that I am going to have in the cupcakes we are eating!!! Clear as mud?!! I’ll take pictures I promise!!
Ok…NOW here are the wording options I have come up with so far!!
These are the ones if we DON’T use birds!!
Sugar and sprinkles and sweet treats for you
Little Miss Gentry is turning two!
Sugar and sprinkles, there’s so much to do
Sweet little Gentry is turning two!
White blonde hair and big baby blues
Little Miss Gentry is turning two!
Ribbons and sparkles and her sweet hair do
Little Miss Gentry is turning two!
Any other brilliant ideas? There will obviously be more to the invite than just one phrase, but that is the start of it anyway! I would love to somehow use the word “shimmer” if anyone has any ideas??!
Ok…now here are the options incorporating those beloved whimsical birds!
Tweet tweet how do you do?
Little Miss Gentry is turning two.
Whimsical birds and cupcakes the theme
Won’t you help make this party a dream?
That was the first one…since then I have come up with a couple of others!
Tweet tweet how do you do?
Little Miss Gentry is turning two.
Whimsical birds will frolic and play,
But cupcakes will be the theme of the day.
OR…same first two lines and this…
Whimsical birds will guide the way,
But cupcakes will be the theme of the day.
I hope this makes sense! I am holding Gentry as I type and whipping this post up quickly because Huntler has a dentist appointment this morning! Wish us luck! He went six months ago and would not open his mouth so I am hoping today goes better! However, this morning I told him we were going and he does NOT want to go! I am planning on taking my camera…is that weird?!!
Ok…I’ll be checking back this afternoon! I hope I have LOTS of comments on this!! Remember I want to know if it is weird to combine birds with the already set cupcake theme and what you think about the wording!!
Thanks dear blog readers!! You are the best!! And I am going to get another giveaway ready soon…I have won two in the last week or so and am going to pay it forward!!! Happy Tuesday!!

Zoo Pals

So the weekend managed to fly by just like always and here it is Monday already! I can remember when time used to stand still…how come these days I cherish seem to be going by all too quickly?

First of all…I am making TONS of progress on “Operation iPhoto!” I started out with 17,265 images and am now down to 13,584 and am in February of 2007. So, I have sorted through thousands but still have thousands more to go! I was in desperate need of a break though, so here I am!!
And then I just discovered that I won this giveaway over at Little Bit Funky!! YAY! Thanks Crystal!! What a fun way to start off the week!!
I still haven’t had the time to do much with all of the pictures we took in Kansas, but I did edit a few to share!
Moving away from home was hard for many, many reasons. I will openly admit that most of those reasons are selfish!! I was lucky enough to get to grow up with a whole lotta cousins…and most of us are pretty close in age! I have many vivid memories of significant events throughout my childhood that include those cousins and because those memories are such a part of my life, I of course want the same for my kids!
However…Chris is an only child so there will never be cousins on his side! My sister has two beautiful kids but is not having any more. And then there is my brother…he just graduated from college so having kids is the last thing on his mind right now!
Getting back on track…Huntler and Gentry only have two cousins, but they are all relatively close in age and ADORE each other! I’ve said over and over again how hard it is to move away from everything that defines “you” and leaving a sweet niece and nephew is no exception!
Meet Trig and Taverli. Trig will be six in November and Taverli turns 3 in September. I know for a fact that they can fight like cats and dogs (I have heard them on the phone before!!), but when we were around them this trip, they were both as good as gold! Trig loved and doted on Tav and was the best big brother an ornery little munchkin could ask for!! We don’t get to see the kids all that often, just two or three times a year, and I am amazed at how mature and grown up Trig is these days. He is such a GOOD kid and a sweetheart through and through!
And then there is Taverli! You see, she and Gentry have a lot more in common than the bright blue eyes and super blonde hair! They are both a tad on the sassy side and full of spunk!! It is fun for me to see how much these two little girls are alike…and how much they both look like my sister when she was younger!
The fascinating thing about kids is they can pick back up right where they left off! The cousins hadn’t seen each other since Christmas, but they were holding hands, sharing drinks and the best of buds at the zoo…chattering away the entire time. Tears are welling up in my eyes as I type now…it’s these things – the little things – I miss for my kids. I want them to have sleepovers at Grandma and Papa’s (although they did have a sleepover the Saturday night Chris and I were at my reunion and I think it is safe to say they wore Grandma and Papa out!!!). I want them to be able to go to each other’s birthday parties, to ride bikes together and feed the ducks at the park. The things that may seem insignificant because of their pure simplicity, but the things that are important because they will be forever etched in their minds and hearts.
Here are a few pictures…

If I were a penguin, I would be a…

I remember the day this guy was born…I honestly can NOT believe he is getting so big already! I guess I just expect my kids to grow and change but no one else’s to!!
Photobucket
Little Miss Firecracker here!! She is as opinionated as she is cute!! And she is another one of those kids who started talking REALLY early and keeps on chatting!!
Photobucket
We love and miss you guys!! Maybe you can come see us sometime!!

Here’s The Deal…

So I posted like crazy on Friday but now I am taking a couple of days off!! I am in the midst of sorting through over 17,000 pictures on iPhoto and deleting TONS (over 1200 are gone already and I am only at Huntler’s first Christmas -WHEW – I have a LONG ways to go)! I tend to take about 10 times more shots than I need of any given image, so we have HUNDREDS of extras that need to be gotten rid of! I am hoping if we can get rid of enough and get iPhoto cleaned up and maybe some images stored on CD’s that Chris will buy me a laptop!! HINT HINT!! We only have Photoshop on this computer downstairs and I would LOVE to have it so I can tote it all over!!

So that is my story! I have also learned that I am now officially a photo snob. Yeah…I have been looking back at all of these sweet pictures of Huntler when he was a baby and the quality is just SO not good. Makes me a little sad…but of course so fortunate that we have the pictures…good or bad! I guess as my love of photography has grown, so have my standards.
And…I did NOT forget it was Father’s Day. I want to do a special post, but I am not feeling the greatest today (horrible allergies) and I am trying to keep sorting through pictures while Gentry is napping and the boys are out swimming, so that will come this week. After all…today is just a day, it doesn’t change the two fathers I want to honor or who they are!!
Enjoy the day! I am back to sorting through pictures! And then we are cooking out and swimming again!! (It was 100 before 11:00 here this morning…UGHHH!)

The Grass Is Always Greener…

Ok…so it is 10:30 and I should be in bed by now, but Chris and I just watched a movie (Shooter with Mark Wahlberg) and I am WIDE awake! The kids have been in bed for what seems like hours and I seem to be having some major allergy issues and can’t get comfortable with my sore throat! And since I have oh, hundreds of pictures just waiting for me to take a little peek, I thought I would come down to the computer and see what images were calling my name tonight!

So yes he is mine and I am slightly biased, but is this little guy not the cutest?!! I mean, really now?!! I took this series of pictures the day after we arrived in Kansas! Huntler felt the need to lay down in my parents front yard and stare up at the trees! It may seem a little crazy, but we do that down here in AZ every now and then…lay back on the patio and see what is happening in the sky! I guess Huntler felt compelled to look up into the huge trees with branches swaying and leaves rustling!
Anyway, something about the full color just didn’t do it for me…so I did a little Photoshopping (thank goodness for Totally Rad Actions!!) and created a more vintage feel! Takes me back to a time where life was simple…I can totally imagine it!!
Photobucket
Photobucket
I LOVE this little man!! I can’t believe he will be FOUR this year!! Where in the world does time go?
Photobucket
And this one I initially deleted…sent it to the trash. But as soon as I clicked I realized that it is a total keeper! So, his eyes are closed, but what a CUTE storyboard would this little series make? Now, I just have to learn that part of Photoshop and I’ll be set!!
Photobucket
Okay…so this is my third post today! Holy cow what has gotten into me?!! I guess I should get back upstairs and try to get some sleep! It is now almost 11:00 and I tend to wake up at the crack of dawn these days!!

Cupcake Crazy!

So I really have a million other things to be doing, but the munchkins and I made the hour long (okay…so it was 55 minutes and not a complete hour!!) trek to the scrapbook store and I am inspired! Not to mention one of my recent Etsy purchases happened to come today so my excitement is doubled!!

Our adventure in the store wasn’t nearly as bad as I had prepared myself for! We did manage to go through 10 packages of Smarties and then some Skittles (I went prepared!!), but we were in and out with only ripping one sheet of paper!! Pretty good for two little nuggets who could care less about scrapping!!
I then discovered a quilting store in the same shopping center so we ventured on in, but by that point, the kids were tired of shopping…so I guess I’ll have to order my fabric online! Anyone know of any super cute polka dot lines or something that screams girly cupcake party??!!!
Okay…check out these amazing little jewels! They are super cute and oh so sparkly cupcakes I happened across on Etsy while looking for felt cupcakes! I saw these gems and immediately forgot about the felt ones I was searching for! I was originally thinking I would make little clips as party favors for all of the girls at the party…but now I have changed my focus just a smidge and am making bright and colorful bows with these cupcakes as the center!! FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN!!
The seller of these little cuties is Katie…she is so easy to work with and will happily get you what you need! Check out her shop!!
By the way…I was experimenting with photo angles! I have so much trouble taking pictures of things and not people!! I could NEVER be a landscape photographer!!
Photobucket
Don’t worry if you have a boy and you are coming to the party…I’ll cook up some fun boy ideas too!! No girly bows I promise!!
Photobucket
These little things are darling! I love each and every one of them!! But here are close ups of just a couple!!
Photobucket
Photobucket
I just thought these papers were fun! For someone who “hates” birds (the real ones!!), I am currently OBSESSED with whimsical ones!! Now I just need a fun little project to whip up with these sheets of paper!!
Photobucket
And this, my friends, is a sampling of what will soon be cupcake party invites!! I had in my mind that the “wrappers” would all be brown, but once I got there and had all of these fun papers at my fingertips, I could see so many possibilities in my mind! I didn’t buy one single sheet of brown cardstock! Nope…these are going to be F*U*N invitations for sure!! Now I just need to add some shimmer and they will be PERFECT for my sweet (but sassy!!) princess!!

Flashback Friday!!!

Now that we are home from the hustle and bustle of the last month, I am ready to get back on track with all my weekly blog trends!! I realize I did Flashback Friday last week, but I feel so out of it because that entry was postdated since we were out of town!!

We are slowly but surely recovering! It has been a LONG few days around here! Huntler started getting a cold or allergies or something the day we left and just hasn’t been quite up to par. And then there is Gentry…she is a complete wreck!! She has cried more since Wednesday morning than she normally cries in two weeks!! And the questions from both kids…their favorite this week has been, “When is Daddy coming home?” Or, “Daddy be home soon?” I wish, babies, I wish!!! They LOVE having Daddy around and got a wee bit spoiled since we had Daddy all day every day for a week!! We have been counting down the hours this week in anticipation for him getting home from work each and every night!! Thank goodness tomorrow is the weekend! Hopefully everyone will get back on track and be good to go by Monday!!
I have many more pictures to share, just not enough of me to do everything that has to be done! I am leaving you with a couple and hope that over the next few days I am able to edit some more and share! We had a truly wonderful trip back to Kansas…one of course met with tears as well as laughter!
This is Grandpa Ronnie…my mom’s dad. They live on a farm about 10 miles outside of town and I have nothing but fond memories of the times I spent there throughout my childhood. Everything from riding in the combine while he cut wheat to three wheeler rides to little creeks (which would make AWESOME photo shoots!!) to trying to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve!! And then there are the trips to the elevator where we got orange soda, raking leaves next to their “old” house and crawling through the culvert with my sister. Wow…I could go on and on! It’s sad how in the chaos of life you forget about things that were so much a part of your life at one time. I am so glad I am doing this…I love taking these little trips down memory lane…to remember where I came from and why I am who I am!
This was 1981/1982…I couldn’t have been more than two years old here…and my grandpa, he was so young too!!
Photobucket
And here he is with Gentry during our trip to Kansas LAST summer…look how much my baby girl has grown up!!
Photobucket
And this is from last Thursday…it is so not the best photo from the photography standpoint, but it is sweet and meaningful to me, and that is what matters!!! (I took a whole series and Huntler wasn’t looking in any of them, so I picked the best one of Gentry and Grandpa!) And that little building? That is the milk house…I am sure at one time it was used for something other than storage, but for as long as I can remember, it has housed little odds and ends…and sometimes a rodent or two!! My grandma has put up a trellis and these vines are growing on the side of it…if the kids would have cooperated it would have been such a cool backdrop!! Very vintage!
Photobucket
Ohhhh…I LOVE this next shot! This field is just a few feet from their house and we went outside as a storm was blowing in…no worries, there was no lightning yet!! It was SO windy I am not sure how Gentry was even able to walk! Huntler absolutely did NOT like it and went back in after just a few minutes!! Anyway, I love the colors…the deep blue with the gold of the wheat and the green on her shirt…FUN!
And on a little sidenote…just because I want to add in as many of the details as I can about our trip…Gentry was not so sure about the wind either our first morning there! Grandma had the kids out picking up sticks (a BIG storm blew through the night before we arrived) and every time the wind blew the branches in the trees would shake and make noise.  This would cause our Gentry girl to panic and run to my mom and say, “Hold you, hold you.” The wind itself didn’t seem to bother her, just the noise it made rattling through the trees! I MISS that noise. Isn’t it funny how things I would have never even thought about before suddenly seem so real? Out here we have palm trees and although they are nice, they aren’t big, mature trees that are so full of leaves you only see a patch of sky here and there. They are cute, litte palm trees!!
And don’t even get me started on storms…I LOVE LOVE LOVE a good old fashioned Kansas thunderstorm!! In Arizona, we are lucky if we get a few inches all year….enough said!!
Photobucket
Enjoy your Friday! We are going to find something fun to do – like maybe hit a scrapbook store and look for papers for Gentry’s upcoming birthday bash! And maybe the pool this afternoon! The laundry is done, the suitcases are put away and we need to find something to pass the hours while we wait for Daddy to get home and the weekend to begin!!

The Hart of the Matter

Okay…so I totally stole that title from Lisa’s blog, but since this entry is all about their incredibly cute little family, I figured it was okay!!
Hmmm….so where do I begin?! I guess I’ll give you a little background!! I don’t remember how it all happened…how we met. Only that Britton, Lisa and sweet little Kaylen (Avery came along a little later!!) were our neighbors. They didn’t live right next door, but across the street and up a couple of houses…in a house with the exact same floorplan as ours!!
Time seems to have escaped me somehow during this craziness we call life, but for some reason or another, we didn’t grow really close to Britton and Lisa until just a few months before we moved. Timing, hunh?! We could have had three years jam packed with loads of fun, laughter and wonderful memories, but for some reason, it wasn’t until the months leading up to our move that we all truly connected. I often think about that…I mean, how can I not? I guess I find it interesting how the dynamics of friendships evolve and what leads us to wind up where we are and when…there is the Sociology major coming out in me!!
Anyway, I would not trade those months before our big trek west for anything! We had some of the best times on Summertree Court with these guys and those are days I will never, ever forget. No matter what new memories are made and where life takes us in the future, those are the ties that bind…the bits and pieces of “what used to be” forever etched in my mind and my heart.
It was such a simple life “back then.” We had the perfect little house we made into our home. We lived on a block where kids were everywhere and the sounds of happiness echoed in through the open windows. We had friends and family scattered throughout the area and the drive “home” was only three hours as opposed to the 15+ it takes now! Moving out here has shaped my life, my friendships and countless connections with others in ways immeasurable. I have learned that nothing can be taken for granted…each day is a blessing and one we must cherish. Although it is no secret that I don’t love Arizona and I can’t wait to get home to Kansas and everyone we “left behind,” I KNOW that what I am learning on this journey through the desert is something priceless. It is making me who I am today and I will forever be grateful for the experiences, the love, the laughter and the tears I have found along the way.
Okay…sorry for that little outburst there!! I went off on a tangent it seems – it happens often with me!! Anyway…getting back on track…It is “funny” how since we have moved to Arizona and began this new chapter in our lives (although it is not so new anymore…we have been here almost two years already) how people have come and gone in my life. Friends I left behind that I truly counted on to be there for me and stay in touch have completely faded from my life. Others I have  remained in touch with and although we may not speak often, we have a way of picking right back up where we left off. New friends I never would have made if we hadn’t moved out here will be dearly missed when we move home to Kansas. And that friendship that was just blooming with dear Lisa? Well, it is one that carries me through the loneliness, the sadness, the homesickness and the darkest of days – as well as the lighthearted, happy and joyous times! It is a friendship I have come to rely upon deeply…one I cherish and am eternally grateful for.
Lisa, you are an amazing person. Your friendship means more than the world to me and I am so thankful that through time and distance we have not only remained friends, but grown in that friendship. You have listened to me whine, complain and cry…all the while you were adjusting the move that your family had to make as well. You let me babble on for hours (literally…we have some LONG phone conversations!!) about everything and nothing…just to fill the silence and void of being in a new place and all alone. You get online and shop with me, share fun finds and party planning tips with me…and much, much more. And while all of that is important, most of all you are you and allow me to be me. There is no pretending, no being strong and keeping truths…just one friend leaning on another friend during the hardest of times and the best of times. Although I dream of the day we move back to Kansas and we find ourselves just down the street from you again, I know if that doesn’t happen, our bond will be just as strong, our friendship just as true. Thank you for being you. I love you dearly and miss you already!
Here are just a few pictures of your beautiful girls…they are both incredibly sweet, inside and out!
Miss Kaylen was not one bit shy…she was posing all over the place for pictures – what a little model!!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Ahh Miss Avery…you haven’t had the easiest of times in your short little life, but what a little miracle you are! Your fight and spunk have taught us all so much!

Love that pucker!!

Exhaustion

I had high hopes of adding a fun new post today, but somewhere among the 15 loads of laundry and two worn out kids, it just didn’t happen! And although it is only 7:15, it has been a long first day home after our trip and I am going to rest up!

Never fear though because I do promise something fun for tomorrow!! So happy Wednesday night and I’ll be back soon!
