Full Steam Ahead

Sorry it has taken me so long to get a few pictures from the party up! Monday the kids and I ran errands all morning and then I spent the afternoon catching up on Quicken and editing some photos. And yesterday I dropped Huntler off at school and sis and I ran errands until we took in cupcakes for Huntler’s class…so we were gone all morning again. And last night we played outside and went out to eat in honor of the little man’s birthday. And two sick kids later, here I finally am!!
I am pretty sure we are just battling allergies over here, but one of my friends’ little guys has pneumonia, so we skipped out on our playdate today and are resting up. Huntler’s nose is running nonstop and Gentry has a raspy little cough and as the day has gone on, she is getting more and more hoarse. So…a day in the life, hunh?!!
I better get to the pics before something else happens and another day goes by!!

Here are a couple of packages from the party! I wrapped all of Huntler’s presents in brown paper and tied a colorful ribbon around them to jazz them up! And then I had it in my mind I was somehow going to print something (I wasn’t even sure what!) and stick it to the package. Anyway, my mom had the FABULOUS idea that I should stamp “Parcel Post” on the packages. Thanks mom…they were SUPER cute and I think just about everyone commented on them!! So I just went from that little bit of inspiration and date stamped them and also stamped, “Attn: Huntler” on them!! They were really cute!!
This photo below is an idea I got online. The person who suggested it went WAY above and beyond what I have the energy for (they planned a full on treasure hunt with all sorts of clues and large painted trains…sorry, that just isn’t me!!), but I did like this idea! I wrapped up all of the engineer hats and told the kids that Sir Topham Hat had just delivered a special gift. I opened the package (it just wasn’t realistic to have 13 kids at my feet!!) and passed out all the hats as Huntler was getting ready to start opening his presents. This way the kids all had something and were a bit distracted while he opened!! (Our last name was stamped in but I blurred it out for obvious reasons…that is why it looks funny!!)

I didn’t pass the favors out until the end because they were slightly “dangerous” and I didn’t want the kids roaming about with dowel rods, but here are the hobo packs! They were SOOO cute!! Each one was filled with some candy, a train whistle and one of the train soaps I made.

And here is a shot of Huntler holding his hobo pack!! I snapped this before the party started!

The party went really, really well. It was chaotic and wild at times, but nothing too out of the ordinary I guess!! There was a slight mishap with the train lollies…I sat them on the counter the morning of the party and as the sun moved, the lollies went from complete shade to complete sun. NOT SMART! Considering it was well over 100 Saturday and they were in direct sunlight, you can imagine what happened. Several of them were just colorful little blobs of chocolate! A few retained their shape and were still recognizable, but the majority of them were ruined. Never fear, we still passed them out and just went with it! I was SO glad I didn’t spend hours on them and use a bunch of different colors! They were solid colors so they were simple!! Thank goodness! Otherwise I might have just cried!!
And the cake…the cake came Friday night and although it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, it worked. Huntler LOVED it and was so, so excited that the “technicalities” didn’t really matter! And by “technicalities,” I just mean there was no whistle or smoke stack and it just didn’t look much like an engine, but Huntler LOVED it!! And that is all that really matters!!

And one last shot of the birthday boy waiting on everyone else to make it inside so he could open his presents!!

And I guess I should get going on that note! Gentry is really not feeling well and already woke up once and needed her binky and tucked back in, so I should get back to putting away laundry while I still can!! I’ll try to share more in the next couple of days!!

Cake may not have been what you expected but it was so bright and festive, I’m not surprised Huntler loved it! It is WAY MORE than I ever thought about. Loved the wheels! I’m sure it was a fun time for all. Hope the kids just have allergies and everyone’s back to feeling super again real soon. Love, Grandma

I’m so excited to finally see these! You put more thought and creativity and work into your parties than anyone I’ve ever known! Have you ever thought about being a party planner as a job? Or maybe putting together a kids’ party planning book? I bet it would fly off the shelves! It really is all of the details that make the parties so much fun isn’t it?

That has got to be one of the cutest cakes I have ever seen. Totally awesome… I just might borrow your whole them for my munchkin in November.

What a great birthday bash you threw! The cake is awesome even without the smokestack!
