Keeping It Real

So my good friend Laura is having weekly blog challenges. I took part the first time around but the last couple of times I have been so consumed with everything that I didn’t get a chance to post!! But here I am for this round!

The challenge this week is to share your bedding. We had what I considered this hideous, *too old for us* bedding for nearly FIVE years before we got what we have now!! When we were registering for our wedding, bedding and dishes were the two areas where we did NOT agree! Needless to say, I settled for bedding that I never really liked and finally managed to talk Chris into getting something new last winter!! It’s so fresh and fun!

And this is it. We bought it at  Kohl’s. They have some of the cutest bedding ever in my opinion!! I was just on their site looking around for the link to what we have and found all sorts of other fun sets! We are going to have to redo our room when we move too!! We aren’t taking our bedroom furniture back with us so it is the perfect chance to get something different and get new bedding too! Check out this fun one!! How incredibly cute would that be with huge black and white prints of the kids in red frames?!! EEK!!  And this? Love it too! And this little bit of fun for Gentry? Actually, THIS is what I really want for her room when we move! Maybe I need to list the *old* stuff on Ebay! I can’t really call it old because it hasn’t even been opened, but it isn’t what I want for her! Soft and soothing just doesn’t fit the little miss!! On the bright side, I think just about everything we have as far as decor goes will match perfectly!! That’s a relief!!

And just for giggles, here is the striped wall in our room once we got our pictures hung! These are actually canvas! LOVE THEM!!

Now I need to get! Sassy pants and I have some things to get done before Huntler gets home from school!

  1. I love the stripes! I’ve been trying to talk my husband into something, well, actually almost identical for YEARS now. No dice. He says that stripes are too hard to paint, so, out of curiosity, are yours painted or wallpapered? And if you painted them, HOW DID YOU DO IT?

Hi Sarah! They are painted…oh are they painted!! I spent HOURS on those there stripes!! We are pretty adventurous in our painting around here…we have vertical stripes, horizontal stripes and polka dots!! None of it is easy, but it is SO worth the time for the look!

Chris taped it all off…I have NO patience for that sort of thing. All the measuring and such. Took forever. I did the painting…one stripe at a time!! We have found that the blue painters tape for faux finishes works the best, but it still seeps through. The walls out here are textured…they weren’t in KS so I am not sure if they are where you live? Anyway, the texture lends itself well to seeping paint!! So there were hours and hours of touch ups as well!

Hope that helps!! Let me know if you have any more questions!! I love to talk decor as much as photography and party planning!!

my friend also suggested that you should use a laser level. This way the line is perfectly level across the wall and then you can tape very easily!

    Thanks for playing :)
I know I’d seen your striped walls and canvases before…but I don’t think I’d seen the new bedding you got. I LOVE the greens and yellows. Very fresh and clean looking. I certainly need something light and more modern like that. I have looked online everywhere for ideas, but NOT at Khols yet. Thanks for the idea.

  10. No, I think that answers my question. Thanks! Now I know what to get at our next trip to the home repair shop!

Also, our walls are, um, I have no idea. We actually live in a lead-paint house, so we’re replacing all of the drywall over the course of the next couple years. So I guess they probably won’t have much texture when everything’s done?

Wow! I LOVE IT! And I’m jealous of your canvas strip of fame. I want that! I really need to get some of our daughter…you know how it is. Always filling everyone else’s orders…never getting to your own. Well, actually…you did! Good job mom! ;)

I love it too! The canvas pics are awesome – did you do them? I would love to do some of my 4 kids. I have a couple from Olan Mills but I love the black and white mixed with color! This is my first comment on your site, but I love your blog and read it all the time!
