Ten on Tuesday

1. Yesterday I asked Chris to please think really hard about letting us pierce Gentry’s ears. He asked me to think really hard about letting her go to school this year. Umm…that is NOT going to happen so I am guessing she won’t be getting her ears pierced either!

2. Huntler is OBSESSED with words. He wants to know how to spell everything. I cannot begin to tell you how many times a day I spell different things for him. When we were at the dentist a couple of weeks ago, he watched Word World for the first time and LOVED it. So much so that I bought him two DVD’s during our next Target outing! Do other kids love watching this kind of educational stuff? Or are my kids going to be the dorks in their classes? Because they could watch the same two movies all day long if I would let them!

Here is one of his bristle block creations…

3. It is UNBELIEVABLY hot down here. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but I just wanted to make sure you are all aware in case you had forgotten!! Yesterday the LOW was 92. The high was 114. And at 10:05 PM it was still 105.

4. I am in some sort of funk. The kind where I doubt EVERYTHING I do in life. My clothes, my hair, my photography, my mothering skills…all of it. I had a little meltdown to Chris this morning and started crying. I hate feeling like this. HATE it. I am sure it is a combination of the heat, my being homesick, Gentry turning three, wanting another baby…all of it. {Although ask me at about 4:30 this afternoon after a day of fighting and chaos if I really want another one!!}

5. Chris was out of town last Wednesday until late Friday night in Chicago. For obvious reasons, I didn’t mention it! Anyway, we were talking about all the fun things to do there and how we would like to go as a family sometime. Our good friends went this summer and took their daughter to the American Girl store. Of course I slid that into the conversation! However, my husband was two steps ahead of me and said that he thought we would hit up the American Girl store when we are in NYC this fall! AND he said that Gentry can actually get a doll! She won’t understand all the hype that goes along with it at this point, but she loves her baby dolls!

6. I found some SUPER fun stuff at Barnes and Noble yesterday while the kids were playing at the train table! First of all, yes, we have a train table but something about getting out and going to one is way more fun than playing at home!! Our playdate was rescheduled and we were all dressed up with nothing else to do, so we hit up the bookstore!

Have you guys seen the fun little cookbooks by Barbara Beery? I have had the Pink Princess Cookbook for some time now and didn’t even realize there were others! That was until I saw the Junior Chef section at Barnes and Noble!

I have now added Pink Princess Tea Parties and the Fairies Cookbook to my collection!! I LOVE these kinds of things!! I have visions of making fun little creations and my kids eating outside on a blanket under our shade trees with the Kansas wind gently blowing, looking up at the sky and finding shapes in the clouds. A girl can dream, can’t she? I am going to make a grocery list and pick up some goodies so the kids and I can get busy creating fabulous treats…which will have to be eaten in the comforts of our air conditioned house! When I was looking these up on Amazon I found all sorts of other fun books too! Maybe I should start working on a Christmas list for myself?!

I also bought this one. I know, I went crazy. This one was the more practical of the three though! We really struggle with coming up with fun new things for the kids to eat and this book seemed to have a lot of simple and tasty ideas that will pass the test of my picky eaters!! I am a bit picky myself and would be totally cool with eating recipes out of this book every day!

7. We took the kids to the local children’s museum on Saturday. They had a blast!! I kid you not, a worker asked me if Gentry’s hair color was natural. Seriously! I have never so much as highlighted my hair…I can assure you we have not dyed our three year old daughter’s hair!! Still makes me laugh thinking about it!

8. Gymboree went and did it again by coming out with an adorable new line!! The last two were total flops in my mind, but this new Popstar Academy is so fun and bright! I only wish that their boy clothes were even half as cute!! I have totally banned myself from buying ANY more summer wear, but we are going to need some new winter attire at some point, aren’t we?! Don’t even get me started on what Gap has to offer right now!

9. Our kids are NOT sleepers. Yes, I got huge naps out of them yesterday, but that was after a weekend of no naps and lots of activity. Huntler was up before 6:00 AM with me yesterday and Gentry at 6:10 AM. And they were both up until 10:00 or so last night. And up again at 6:30 this morning. I am GLAD at this point they aren’t lazy and sleeping half the day away, but one day a week of sleeping until just 7:30 or 8:00 would be so nice!! I am pretty much always up when they get up, but I cherish the quiet during the early morning hours! It is nice to have some computer time and exercise time without having to break up fights and wipe bottoms!

10. Did you watch The Bachelorette season finale last night? I won’t post too much because I am sure someone out there hasn’t seen it yet, but there is always so much DRAMA on that show!! It is crazy!! I hope Jillian has found happiness!!

I will have to check out those cookbooks, both of mine love to “help” in the kitchen!
I get in funks too, that is usually when I end up with some random haircut because it is done spur of the moment and makes me feel better for a little while!

bachelorette…i hope she is happy too, but i thought it was so unfair of “dude” to come back like that. so hard for her!! i hope it works out for her and that there really is another wedding out of that show.
ps i spell words all day long…:) gunnar loves it too.

  3. Love your honesty…such “real” life…of course with AMAZING pictures from you…and I’m REALLY homesick too! *sigh*
    Blessings!

I spell words all day long too. And I count with him all day. He asked me to count to 1000. Holy cow!
And I am addicted to Gymboree girl’s clothes. Not much for boys that I like there.
You’ll get out of your funk soon. I realize that the lack of green can bring on the funk…Arizona doesn’t offer much green. Maybe you and the kids could plant a garden so you could see some colors??
    Miss you!
Oh and p.s. Dye Gentry’s hair? Seriously…did she think you were a beauty pageant mama? ;-)

So sorry to hear about your funk. I think it is a combo of the heat, homesickness and your hubby being out of town! That would all put me over the edge too!

I have stopped buying summer clothes too and I am ready to start buying for fall.

Hope you have a great week!

I was in a funk last week…..maybe it is the heat!!

Okay, I have several of those cookbooks too and LOVE them! I used to sell Southern Living at HOME and have a ton of their cookbooks. All good! We love to go to B & N too :)

And, wee one is not a good sleeper AT ALL! That is my biggest struggle with her! It’s enough to drive me mad*&*#^$#^#&^……see!

Watched all but the last 15 minutes of Bachelorette…….I don’t think I can watch another season of that or it’s other half! CRAZY!

    Hang in there!!!

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for sending me over to Gymboree.. the Owl line for babies is so adorable! Bobby says THANK YOU too.. but I think his maybe a little sarcastic..lol!! I am bummed about the Bachelorette, but I hope she is happy! Arn’t funks fun! I go into them too, and always doubt everything I do as well! I am sure the heat, and being stuck in the house, homesick adds to it! It always seems to be Xmas time and Summer for me! Can’t wait for the Splashpad on Thursday.. watch out I may come rockin a huge preggo belly in a tiny bikini.. haha :) !!
