Ten on Tuesday

Three days of posting in a row…looks like I am finally getting back on track around here! And since I skipped Ten on Tuesday last week, I should have no trouble coming up with a little bit of fun to share today! Shall we?

First things first…thanks for all the comment love! I have had fun reading them and heading over to check out each of your blogs and leave a little love for you as well! It is fun to see who is peeking in on our little life here in the desert! So, now you have made the first step, don’t be strangers!! And yes, I am taking my own advice!!

Here we go…

1. Chris’ mom left EARLY this morning to fly back home to Kansas. After four days with all sorts of crazy attention and a grandma at their beck and call, I have a sneakingly strong suspicion that the next two or three days are going to be a little rough around here for one little mister and miss that I know! And if they are cranky and whiny, that probably means my days will be a tad on the long side!!

2. I can NOT believe it is September already! WOWZERS!! Despite the horrid heat, the summer months really and truly did fly by! But with the arrival of September, I desperately want the arrival of cooler temps and that is just not the way it works down here! Boo!!

3. While Grandma was here, we did a wee bit of online shopping. Somewhere new. Somewhere expensive. But somewhere super stylin’! Mini Boden. I have been aware of the cuteness that is Mini Boden for quite some time now but have somehow managed to exert enough self control to not order anything. Needless to say, I am beyond excited she was game for a little “back to school” shopping for the kiddos…one of whom isn’t even in school yet!

This shirt is VERY much the style I have assigned to Huntler! Preppy. I have a certain way I like him to look and a lot of the time that includes collared shirts!! Prime example…

And I also have a thing for layered long sleeved t-shirts. Like this fun number! It could also be presumed that I might just have a thing for snowboarders and skaters as well! On clothing that is…not in real life!! Of the very few shirts Huntler has with graphics, the majority are surfers, skaters and snowboarders!!

And for the kid sister…as with every store, there were far more fab girl items than boy items so our decision was a tad harder. But not too awfully hard because both Grandma and I loved these two!

Boden calls this piece a Cosy Gilet. I really have no clue what in the world that means, but I do know cute when I see it, and this, my friends, is cute! However, it is on backorder for 14 weeks. I wasn’t paying enough attention when loading up my shopping cart and I thought there were 14 left in stock. WRONG-O! All that means is that it won’t be here in time for our NYC trip but it will be here just as the temps start cooling off in our neck of the woods! And if you ask me, fuzzy cuteness is more than worth the wait!

Sooooooo loving this and the fabulous color combo. A lot. It is actually a dress top and is supposed to be worn with jeans, but I read the reviews and am pretty darn sure that this will instead be a dress on Gentry girl! For this winter at least! Next winter we can pair it with jeans and have a fun new spin on it!

Thanks Grandma…I love the clothes and I know my two stylin’ munchkins will too!

4. I {heart} Facebook! I have had the best time keeping up with the lives of my friends, near and far. It is so fun to pop in and see what everyone around here is up to for the day! And it is equally as fun to pop in and see what high school and college friends are up to in their lives. I have completely quit Twitter…Facebook is more my style because for the most part it is people I know or feel like I know via the blog world!

5. I have a strong dislike of stuffed animals. I mean a REALLY strong dislike. Yet my darling diva is beginning to have an obsession. Why oh why? Of all things, puh-lease not stuffed animals! They annoy me. They take up space and just get on my nerves. Dolls I am cool with…we have an entire daycare worth of babies and I am fine with that. Care Bears hold a special place in my heart because I loved them when I was a kid. But the rest of ‘em? Not so much. So why does Gentry have this love? Why did she pick out yet another stuffed animal when Grandma took them to Toys R Us? There is an entire store full of really cool stuff yet she opts for the singing dog!! Grandma knows I am not a big fan, but Grandma also knows it isn’t like I am going to throw a fit over this!!

6. I love the word UBER. I think it is fun, funky, fabulous…and well, uber cool! I  use it whenever I get a chance! Have you noticed?

7. I thought it would be fun to start posting a link to one of the songs on my playlist each week! And with the amount of songs I have, I will have no trouble coming up with one to share! I only just heard of this song a few weeks ago when my BFF Lisa suggested I download it for my workout playlist. It was love at the first listen! I immediately bought it on iTunes and I still love it! Totally gets me moving!

8. Speaking of workouts…I fell off the wagon so to speak! The last two weeks I have really struggled with getting them in each morning. And I haven’t been eating all that great either! But this morning I hopped back up on that elliptical and gave it everything I had!! Time to get back on track!!

9. Did you catch that I mentioned NYC above? YES…we are going this fall!! Some of you may remember that our trip in May was rescheduled due to the Swine Flu outbreak. I was so bummed at the time but am now actually really glad that it was moved to later in the year! Since we don’t really get a “fall” here so to speak, it will be a much needed getaway!

10. When you have vegetable oil that is old, throw it away!! A few weeks ago {months maybe?} I made some carrot cake cupcakes and was totally disgusted by the way they tasted! Now, I am no Betty Crocker, but generally I can handle things from boxes! Anyway, these were gross! All I could taste was oil. I thought it was because I hadn’t been eating much junk and so they seemed really strong. Well, I made some brownie bites over the weekend with the same said vegetable oil and once again, totally gross. So…we did a little date check on the bottle. Umm…HELLO! It was well over two years old. No wonder they were nasty! For the most part we have been using olive oil but for these I decided to use vegetable oil. Needless to say, it and another bottle of oil have since been trashed!

Happy Tuesday blog world!! It’s a short work week…gotta love that!

Thought I would leave you a “little blog love” as you call it. Nice to keep up with you too via FB and here. Love all the photos from your family session! Re: oil. You can use applesauce instead of vegetable oil for cakes, brownies etc. I do it all the time. Keeps them moist and is a wee bit better for you. Enjoy your NYC trip. I am actually going there as well in a few weeks. Taking a kid-free weekend and spending some time with my two cousins in the city. Should be fun, I am so looking forward to it.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. As you can see, we are just getting started and although I stay home, I never seem to find time to consistently update it. Between Rylee’s treatments and all the housework that never ends, it seems as though my days fly by. I just wanted to get back to you to let you know what theme we went with for her birthday. I had actually picked the cupcake theme, and then found it on your blog later. I got the majority of the ideas for the party from the ladybug theme and candy shoppe (which we will be doing both of these in the future!) After the majority of the party was planned, i found Gentry’s cupcake party and thought it was soooo cute! I will be posting pictures of the party soon! I have them posted to facebook, just not the blog! More will come soon!

I love preppy shirts with a collar, too, for my little boy :) Thankfully he really doesn’t have much of an opinion about clothes like his sister did at this age, so I don’t have to fight him on it!

Your kids will be the best dressed this Fall!

I love peeking in on your blog…your kids are too cute! As a girl living in Kansas, I can relate to your love for this place!! I agree with the boy thing…my son dresses preppy everyday, I love it!!

Oh love all the clothes you picked out for the kids! So classy and preppy like you called it :) Sounds like it was a nice visit with grandma. I was laughing about your olive oil story…can’t believe that you kept if for 2 years and didn’t know it..haha! NY will be so fun for you and I can’t wait to see photos from your trip. I’m sure they will be amazing!
