When we had Huntler, I thought we needed everything. Pack n Play, swing, exersaucer, Johnny Jump Up, mobiles, play mats…you name it and we “needed” it! After two babies and a huge wake up call, the truth of the matter is we didn’t need half the things we {I} thought we did! Considering Gentry is now three and a half and I am an extreme purger, we have saved very little! I did keep two totes of baby toys and my absolute favorite outfits of the kids, but the rest is long gone. And that’s completely okay.
Even though Baby Graham isn’t do for another six months, we are gearing up! {Pun intended!!} But this time around it is a lot more laid back. As in all we need is a car seat/stroller travel system, a bouncy seat and some bottles. However, there is ONE thing I am insisting upon that we never had before…a Moses Basket. {Of course, we had a bassinet and even I couldn’t justify needing a bassinet and a Moses Basket!!}
While we were home in Kansas I latched on to the Moses Basket my mom and dad had for my brother…twenty four years ago! It has been up in the attic all wrapped up and is in fabulous shape! The bedding is also 24 years old and needless to say, not quite my style! So I am currently in contact with an Etsy seller who is tracking down the fabric I want and going to create the bedding for us! YAY! We are going with something super fun yet neutral…sock monkeys and a polka dot accent {I am thinking orange}!! I am beyond excited to see how it all comes together!
When we were working on ideas for Gentry’s Christmas list, I added a Moses Basket to it. She loves all things baby right now and considering there is going to be a lot more “baby” around here this summer, we thought it would be a good idea to get her all her own stuff…a car seat, stroller and high chair, etc. I also came across this pattern online and forwarded it to my mom. Since I can’t sew, I send her all my ideas!!
While out Christmas shopping, she and my dad came across these mini Moses Baskets at Hobby Lobby for only $12.99. Print yourself out a 40% off coupon and you have a rockin’ deal my friends!
Sorry the picture is so small! Once I had my spray paint in my hot little hands I got all excited and forgot to snap a picture so I had to call my mom tonight and have her take a quick pic of the one she bought for my niece!

The plan was for my mom to make bedding for Gentry and my niece, but with the chaos of Christmas and the fact that she and I both got the stomach flu and were out of commission the week of Christmas, it didn’t get done. I am kinda glad she didn’t take the time to make it because I love what we ended up with!
This morning I headed off to Home Depot and picked out some spray paint. One perk of living in the desert is that you can spray paint year ’round! The high today was in the low 70’s and there was a super slight breeze so the paint went on perfectly and dried quickly!
Don’t look too closely at the quality of these…I am still not so much into photographing “things” and lose my patience quickly!!

And here it is with some fun contrasting ribbon tied around the handles as well as baby Chloe!

For those interested, I added a light coat of Shellac over the top and called it good!! What a difference a coat of paint and some fun ribbon make, hunh?! Easy peasy!! Gentry girl and I LOVE the way it turned out!
I hope this makes sense! I have been up and working since before daylight and I am dragging tonight! Off to finish my supper and go to bed…yes, before 8:00!!

Wow! Look at that green grass! Our whole yard is under a very thick sheet of ICE right now! That basket is too cute! I have been racking my brain, trying to think of anything to get Madison for her birthday, since we don’t need any toys. This is perfect! Thanks so much for sharing your great idea!
hi… long time no talk… just so you know, I will be having a baby sometime in July of 2010
I love the moses basket and what a great deal! Glad you guys had a good Christmas and New years! I missed reading you blog while you were gone!
